I am now in Florida for the LORT meeting and I’m looking forward to visiting with so many friends and colleagues here.
Our Conference planning team asked me to offer you this update. We have announced that Julie Taymor will be our closing keynote speaker at the National Conference in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 18. Julie is a great theatre artist with a long and illustrious career, which, of course, includes her recent work on Broadway in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. It will be fascinating to hear her views on the future of theatre, as well as her accounts about the challenges of the massive and ultimately controversial undertaking that is Spider-Man. She’ll be interviewed by journalist and professor Roger Copeland, who was “embedded” in the rehearsal process and composed this article for American Theatre back in December.
I want to also call your attention to a few additional things. We just posted a new installment in our “What If…?” Project series on the TCG Circle. This one poses questions about the future shape and structure of higher education in theatre and is penned by Craig Fleming, an actor, director, teacher and writer. Next week, we’re offering a Leadership Teleconference, Tips for Assessing Your Staff, with human resources expert Robbin Walker, on Thursday, May 12, 2:00pm-3:30pm (ET). Registration deadline is May 11 at noon.
