NEA FY11 Appropriations–Contact Your Senators!

February 24, 2011

in Advocacy from TCG & PAA

We reported on February 17 that the U.S. House of Representatives has approved a $43.1 million cut to the NEAthis is a 25% reduction!

The Senate will begin work to craft its spending bill on February 28. We hope, and expect, the NEA to fare better in the Senate bill. ALL U.S. Senators need to hear from their constituents in order for them to feel moved to preserve NEA funding. We urge all theatres to generate many emails to your Senators to support level funding for the NEA! (Level funding would be $167.5 million.)

Further, the House eliminated funding for the Arts Education programs at the U.S. Department of Education. The Senate could restore these funds. So, please also urge your Senators to support arts education in this budget.

Action: Senators should hear from constituents by March 2 to impact their decision-making on this FY11 budget. Visit the Performing Arts Alliance for any easy and fast way to take action and write to your Senators.

Here is the Roll Call Vote on the Walberg amendment which cut the NEA so you can see how your House Member voted.  You are urged to send a follow up message to either thank your Representative for his/her vote or voice concern and urge support of arts funding in the future.
